Seongbuk Residences

Seongbuk Residences

Completed in 2009

Location: Seoul, Korea

Client: Private

Role: Project Architect with Joel Sanders Architecture and Haeahn Architecture

Size: 1 Acre Site, 12 Units

Seongbuk Residences is a town home development perched on a steep hill in the residential neighborhood of Seoul, Korea. Taking advantage of the site’s slope and panoramic views, each home is staggered vertically and horizontally to maximize views from each unit. Designed with the principle of layered landscapes, the green roof of the neighboring house provides a borrowed foreground landscape to the mountains of Seoul to each unit.

Each unit opens up to the private terrace and landscape for indoor-outdoor living. The roofs are planted with sedum that change color throughout the distinct four seasons of Seoul, participating in the surrounding landscape when seen both from inside and from the ancient fort across the valley.
