Solar Carve

Solar Carve

Completed in 2019

Location: New York, NY

Client: Aurora Capital

Role: Senior Project Lead with Studio Gang

Program: Office

Size: 145,500 GSF, 12 Stories

LEED Gold Certified

Located along the Hudson River and straddling Manhattan's High Line Park, the building is designed to respond to the needs of the Client as much as maximizing the light and air available to one of the city's most-visited public green space in the City.

While positioning itself away from the park to allow for more air and light to reach the High Line, the tower gets upclose to the Hudson River opening up panoramic views. The corners are carved away to both maximize the amount of sun and sky available to the High Line, while providing dynamic corners to the urban context. The faceted corners are comprised of 3-dimensional curtain wall units that are designed and engineered to be installed with standard stack joints.

The Lobby expresses the identify of the building with the bold steel desk against the backdrop of the custom architectural concrete wall. The rooftop features a collection of intimate spaces for individuals to large open gathering spaces against the panoramic view of the Hudson River.
