Springy Banks ADU

Location: East Hampton, NY
Size: 700 SF
Role: Architect of Record

In a coastal town where many young residents leave for opportunities elsewhere, Spring Banks ADU offers a different path—staying close to family while maintaining independence. Designed as an attached accessory dwelling unit, it extends the existing shingle-style home with a form and material palette that feel timeless and rooted in place.

The project provides a self-contained living space, complete with its own entrance, while preserving visual harmony with the main residence. Cedar shingles, a pitched roof, and a simple, open porch connect the addition to the architectural language of the original structure.

Beyond its practical function, the ADU serves as a model for how small-scale, thoughtful design can address housing challenges in tight-knit communities. It offers a way to accommodate the next generation without sacrificing privacy, ensuring family members can remain part of the same landscape and daily rhythms.
